About

Davor Gromilovic is a visual artist mainly focused on new contemporary drawing & painting, which represents the primary field of his creative exploration and development. Besides that, he also shows creative abilities and genuine commitment to other artistic forms such as art books, illustration, sculpture, creating art fanzines, and even clothes design. Currently residing in Sombor, Serbia (born in Yugoslavia, 1985).

His work is narrative and often inspired by fantastic motives of fairy tales, folk-art, pop surrealism, sci-fi, and even by north renaissance masters of painting, as well as by his personal experiences and inner world. In his work one notices a dominant use of symbols, his inner world and complex reflections from which he develops ideas and specific intimate aesthetics. Complex, but at the same time purified, strongly imaginative but well-thought-out works adorn this artist’s rich oeuvre.
Gromilović’s work can be found in many private & public collections such as Solo Collection Museum Madrid, Luziah Hennessy collection, Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, etc.

His work has been published in few of his solo books (Bestiary, Wrong Time Wrong Place, Melektenjal’s Kingdom) numerous group books, magazines, publications and articles from around the world, published by Nieves (Swiss), Fukt Magazine (DE), Hidden Champion Magazine (Jap), Hi-Fructose Magazine (USA), Le Monde Diplomatique (GER), Hey! Magazine (FRA), and many others.

“Looking at one of Serbian-based artist Davor Gromilović’s trippy drawings is a bit like having a peek through a Where’s Wally? book: the more you look, the more you see. Except, while Where’s Wally? is strictly PG, Gromilović’s works are doused in a healty dose of freaky. Inspired by fairy tales and symbols from Yugoslavia, where Gromilović was born, he incorporates wild-ranging references, from popular culture to childhood memories.
Through a dominant use of symbols and colour, the artist’s inner world is turned inside out, visible for all to see. That’s not to say that his drawings are esoteric, quite opposite: he hope to leave it up to “people to create their own kind of story” and “immerse observers into my world of imagination”. We cought up with the artist to talk about animal hybrids, 90’s video games and lining through wartime” - FUKT Magazine

“Serbian artist Davor Gromilovic draws and paints fantastical scenes, mixing influences and moods with both a sense of wonder and danger. He’s able to navigate all eras with an absorbing sense of detail, featuring Cro-Magnon characters and futuristic swashbucklers. All have a tinge of humor within kinetic, theatrical displays.”  - Hi-Fructose Magazine

“A selection of absolutely mental drawings by Sombor, Serbia-based artist Davor Gromilovic. The works are often inspired by fairy tales and symbols from Yugoslavia, where Gromilovic was born, mixed with references to everything from sci-fi movies to Renaissance paintings. One of my favourite spotlights in the history of this site — scroll down slowly, take it all in.” - Booooooom
